Established in July 1985, by the late Maurice Berry, a former Deputy Governor
of the Bank of Jamaica, Mayberry initially concentrated on trading shares on
the Jamaica Stock Exchange. However, significant investment opportunities soon
emerged in Jamaica’s fixed income market and the Company participated actively
in the development of this market, especially in Government of Jamaica Treasury
Bills and Local Registered Stock.
In 1993, Mr. Christopher Berry assumed the position of Executive Chairman,
following the passing of Mr. Maurice Berry. Mr. Christopher Berry has been
instrumental in the growth of the Company’s client base as well as its funds
under management. He successfully piloted the Company’s recent Initial Public
Offering on the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE), raising approximately $1.2b, a
record in the history of the JSE.
Mayberry is a full service financial advisory and brokerage firm specializing
in: • Stock and Money Market Trading (locally and internationally) • Asset and
Portfolio Management • Cambio Services • Pensions Management • Research
Mayberry was among the first financial institutions appointed a Primary Dealer
by the Bank of Jamaica, thereby enabling the company to become a major player
in the money market. In 1997, Mayberry became a licensed Cambio facilitating
the extension of the Company’s services into the foreign exchange market. Since
then, Mayberry has been in the forefront of raising US dollar loan funding for
the Government and for corporate entities.
In 1998, the Company introduced the Mayberry Performance Index (MPI), which has
served as a useful guide to its clients and to the market as a whole for
effective portfolio planning. The MPI is a list of our top recommended stocks
for purchase and has seen an annual average growth rate of approximately 68%
over the last six (6) years. This performance led to the establishment of the
MMEP which has outperformed all three JSE indices as well as most of the equity
unit trusts and mutual funds in the market over the past year.
Mayberry has become renowned for its highly acclaimed Monthly Investor’s Forum,
which the Company initiated in 1999. The series provides investors with
opportunities to discuss significant issues related to their own investment and
financial planning needs with outstanding local and international business,
industry and financial leaders. A regular feature of the forum is an investor’s
update on many of Jamaica’s companies listed on the stock exchange.
The Company has a client base of over 20,000 and funds under management of
approximately $18B. Mayberry is closely affiliated with international
syndicates such as Oppenheimer & Co., Morgan Keegan, Bank of
America and Deutsche Bank. The staff compliment stands at over 100 qualified
