US Monthly Wholesale Inventories rose in April 2021 to $570.8 billion, up 0.8%

Sales 

Since adjusting for seasonal variations and trading-day differences but not for price changes, according to the US Census Bureau, merchant wholesalers’ April 2021 revenues were $570.8 billion, up 0.8% ((±0.4%) from the revised March amount and up 43.6% (±1.4%) from the revised April 2020 level. The percent improvement from February 2021 to March 2021 was changed from a tentative estimate of up 4.6% (0.7%) to up 4.3% (0.7%).

Inventories 

Total merchant wholesaler inventories, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, were $698.0 billion at the end of April, up 0.8% (±0.4%) from the revised March level, after adjusting for seasonal variations and trade day differences but not for price changes. Total inventories increased 5.2% (±1.2%) from the updated April 2020 level. The percent change from March 2021 to April 2021 was unrevised from an advance forecast of up 0.8% (±0.4%).

Inventories/Sales Ratio 

Based on seasonally adjusted data, the inventories/sales ratio for merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, was 1.22 in April. The ratio in April 2020 was 1.67.
