The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI‑U) increased 0.3% on a seasonally adjusted basis in February 2026, following a 0.2% gain in January. Over the past 12 months, the all items index rose 2.4% before seasonal adjustment.
Shelter costs advanced 0.2% in February and remained the largest contributor to the monthly increase. The food index rose 0.4%, with both food at home and food away from home registering gains. The energy index increased 0.6% over the month.
Excluding food and energy, the all items index increased 0.2% in February. Notable increases were recorded in medical care, apparel, household furnishings and operations, airline fares, and education. Major components that declined included communication, used cars and trucks, motor vehicle insurance, and personal care.
For the 12 months ending in February, the all items less food and energy index increased 2.5%. The energy index rose 0.5% over the year, while the food index advanced 3.1% over the same period.
