US Consumer Spending Rises Most in a Year, Core PCE Up 0.2%
US consumer spending rose in August at the fastest pace in over a year, helping to power the economy through persistent inflation.
Inflation-adjusted personal spending climbed 0.6% in August from a month earlier, according to Bureau of Economic Analysis data released on Wednesday.
Europe:
German Inflation Jumps to Highest in Almost Three Years
German inflation hit its highest level in almost three years, putting further pressure on the European Central Bank to lift interest rates again.
Consumer prices advanced an annual 3.3% in September, more than the 3.2% median estimate in a Bloomberg survey. Energy was the main factor driving the acceleration.
Asia:
China’s Economic Activity Rebounds With Stimulus Lifting Outlook
China’s factory activity expanded for the first time since June, with a slew of indicators showing the economy ended the third quarter on a bright note as policymakers move to deploy new measures to support growth.
The official manufacturing purchasing managers’ index was 50.1 in September, up from 49.8 in August and in line with the forecasts of economists surveyed by Bloomberg. A reading above 50 indicates expansion.
