Data Center Restrictions Make the Ballot in Dozens of US Cities
Voters in dozens of US counties and cities will soon have the chance to help enact policies that would slow down the development of data centers.
Municipalities from Nevada to Georgia are giving residents an opportunity to vote for policies that would tax, regulate or even ban artificial intelligence infrastructure.
BOE to Raise Rates for First Time Since 2023, Survey Shows
The Bank of England is expected to deliver its first rate hike in over three years on Thursday, according to a Bloomberg survey of 35 economists conducted at the end of last week.
All respondents — who were polled between Oct. 29 and Oct. 30 — expect the rate to be raised to 4% from 3.75%, the level at which it was kept for 11 months.
BOJ Signals Low Hopes for Consumer Spending as Population Falls
The Bank of Japan signaled that the shrinking of Japan’s population means that it’s increasingly difficult to achieve robust growth in overall consumer spending, suggesting that weak aggregate consumption by itself might not point to deteriorating household demand.
“From a demographic perspective, attention should be paid to the point that, to begin with, it is difficult to expect robust growth in aggregate private consumption as a trend,” the BOJ said in its full quarterly outlook report released Monday. “Specifically, the rate of decline in Japan’s population has been accelerating since around 2020.”
