As of September 07, 2021, the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) had spread across the globe to six continents, and three million people had died after contracting the respiratory virus. Cases now stand at 222,260,689 globally.
Locally, cases have reached 72,824 with 837 confirmed cases being reported on Sunday, September 06, 2021. Based on the COVID-19 Clinical Management Summary for September 06, 2021, there were 9 deaths recorded, hence Jamaica’s death toll for COVID-19 positive individuals stands at 1,646. The total number of deaths under investigation as at September 06, 2021 is 197.
Approximately 220 countries and territories worldwide have been affected by the COVID-19 disease. The virus is still circulating at very high rates, and many countries have reintroduced lockdown rules to slow the spread recorded over the winter months. Furthermore, fresh travel restrictions have been implemented following the discovery of new variants, particularly those first identified in the UK and South Africa.
