The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) reported that as of July 2025, the point-to-point inflation rate was +3.3%; 0.5 percentage points lower than the 3.8% recorded between June 2024 to June 2025. Compared to June 2025, the All-Jamaica Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.3% in July 2025.
The main driver of the monthly increase (0.3%) was a 0.9% rise in the index for the ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’ division, primarily due to a 2.9% increase in the class ‘Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses.’ This was driven by higher prices for cabbage, sweet pepper, tomato, and yam, though partly offset by declines in carrot, plantain, and sweet potato prices. Additionally, a 0.4% increase in the ‘Transport’ division—mainly from a 1.4% rise in the ‘Operation of Personal Transport Equipment’ group due to higher petrol prices—contributed to the overall uptick. However, this was tempered by a 0.8% decline in the ‘Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ division, largely due to a 2.9% fall in the ‘Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ group stemming from lower electricity rates.
The All-Jamaica point-to-point inflation rate for the period July 2024 to July 2025 was 3.3%. The main contributors to this increase were the divisions: ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’ (+3.7%), ‘Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ (+3.7%), and ‘Restaurants and Accommodation Services’ (+6.3%).
