LASD reports 45% increase in first quarter net profit

Unaudited financials for the first quarter ended June 30, 2026:

LASCO Distributors Limited (LASD) for the first quarter ended June 30, 2026, reported a 16% increase in Revenue totalling $8.44 billion compared to $7.27 billion in the corresponding three months last year. Management noted that the company delivered strong growth in sales, supported by continued momentum across key product categories.

Cost of Sales amounted to $6.89 billion (2025: $6.01 billion), representing an increase of 15% year over year. Consequently, Gross Profit increased by 22% to $1.54 billion compared to $1.26 billion for the first quarter ended June 30, 2025. Gross margin improved to 18.3% from 17.4% in the prior year, supported by strategic pricing, improved operational efficiencies and higher revenue.

Other Operating Income decreased by 31% to $56.95 million from $82.60 million in 2025. Operating Expenses increased by 8% to $1.06 billion compared to $981.98 million in the prior year. Management noted that the increase in operating expenses was largely driven by higher employee-related expenses, continued investments in sales and marketing initiatives, and increased security-related costs.

Profit from Operations for the three months amounted to $538.22 million, representing a 49% increase relative to $362.16 million reported in 2025. Finance Costs increased by 109% to $16.33 million from $7.80 million in the corresponding period last year, reflecting additional debt incurred to support the company’s warehouse expansion project.

Profit Before Taxation for the first quarter ended June 30, 2026 amounted to $521.88 million, representing a 47% increase from $354.36 million reported in 2025. Taxation increased by 59% to $79.93 million compared to $50.41 million in the prior year. Consequently, Net Profit for the three months amounted to $441.95 million, representing a 45% increase from $303.95 million in 2025.

Total Comprehensive Income for the three months increased by 49% to $441.07 million compared to $295.17 million in 2025.

Consequently, Earnings Per Share for the three months amounted to $0.13 compared to $0.09 in 2025. The twelve-month trailing EPS was approximately $0.34, and the number of shares used in these calculations was 3,530,702,702.

Notably, LASD’s stock price closed the trading period on August 5, 2026, at $3.09. Using the twelve-month trailing EPS of approximately $0.34, this represents a P/E ratio of approximately 9.08x.

Balance Sheet Highlights

The company’s Total Assets amounted to $17.95 billion at June 30, 2026, representing an 8% increase from $16.61 billion in 2025. The increase was mainly driven by Cash and Cash Equivalents, which rose to $2.68 billion from $1.62 billion, as well as Short-Term Investments, which increased to $1.11 billion from $800.14 million. Together, cash and short-term investments closed at approximately $3.79 billion, representing a 56% increase year over year.

Shareholders’ Equity increased to $11.54 billion from $10.77 billion in 2025, representing a book value per share of approximately $3.27 compared to $3.05 in the prior year.
