US Mortgage Rates Surge Above 7% to a More Than Two-Year High
US mortgage rates rose to the highest level in more than two years, further weighing on a housing market already suppressed by elevated prices and sluggish sales.
The contract rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage rose 15 basis points to 7.12% in the week ended Sept. 18, according to Mortgage Bankers Association data released Wednesday.

Euro-Zone Business Activity Hits Three-Year High on Services
Private-sector activity in the euro area grew at the fastest pace in more than three years as the service sector unexpectedly improved.
The Composite Purchasing Managers’ Index compiled by S&P Global increased to 53.1 from 52 in August, well above the 50-threshold separating growth from contraction.

Asia to Face Sustained Inflation Pressure Into 2027, ADB Warns
Wars in Europe and the Middle East and a severe El Niño are amplifying price pressures across Asia, likely fanning inflation through next year and keeping central banks on guard, according to the Asian Development Bank.
The re-escalation of fighting in Iran and the spread of conflict to Yemen have choked supplies of crude and refined products, while Russia’s war on Ukraine has disrupted grain shipments, the ADB said in its latest outlook released on Wednesday.
