US advance monthly sales for retail and food services fell by 1.1%

Advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for November 2020 was recorded at $546.5 billion a 1.1% decreased from September 2020. It was noted that the advance estimate for the period under review was adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day difference, but not price changes.

Notably, November’s retail sales outturn was 4.1% above November 2019. Total sales for September 2020 through November 2020 period increased 5.2% from the corresponding period a year ago. The September 2020 to October 2020 percent change was revised from up 0.3% to down 0.1%.

Retail trade sales went down merely 0.8% from October 2020, and 7.1% above last year. The United States census also reported that, non-store retailers climbed 29.2% from November 2019, while food services and drinking places were down 17.2% from last year.
