Production in construction rose by 0.7% in euro area and 1.1% in EU28 for November

Seasonally adjusted production in construction rose by 0.7% in the euro area (EA19) and increased by 1.1% in the EU28 for November compared with October 2019. According to Eurostat’s first estimates stated in October 2019, “production in construction fell by 0.5% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the EU28.” Whereas, in November 2019 compared with November 2018, production in construction rose by 1.4% in the euro area and in the EU28.

Monthly comparison by construction sector and by Member State:

During November 2019, building construction in the euro area climbed by 1.1%, while civil engineering increased 0.3% relative to October 2019. In the EU28, building construction rose by 1.4%, whereas, civil engineering increased by 0.1%. Among Member States for which data are available, the largest increases in production in construction were observed in  Poland (+3.1%), Germany (+2.6%) and France (+2.5%). Hungary (-4.5%), Slovakia (-3.8%) and Portugal (-1.4%) experienced the greatest decreases.

Annual comparison by construction sector and by Member State:

For November 2019, building construction advanced 1.4% and civil engineering rose 0.5% in the euro area relative to November 2018. Moreover, in the EU28, civil engineering rose by 0.5% and building construction by 1.7%. Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases in production in construction were recorded in Romania (+24.0%), Hungary (+6.8%) and Germany (+4.8%).

Furthermore, highest decreases were experienced in Slovakia (-9.6%), Slovenia (-8.4%) and Spain (-3.0%).
