“President Donald Trump is set to be acquitted of two impeachment charges in final votes set for Wednesday at 4 p.m. Before then, senators will hear lawyers’ closing arguments and have two days for debate.”

Pound Slumps Before Start of Tough Brexit Trading Negotiations
“The pound is back in the doldrums after reports that Prime Minister Boris Johnson will effectively threaten to walk away from negotiations with the European Union without a formal trade deal. Sterling fell more than 1% to lead losses among Group-of-10 currencies, wiping out last week’s advance. Johnson, and the EU’s chief negotiator Michel Barnier, are setting out Monday their planned positions for upcoming talks.”

China Considers Lowering 2020 Growth Expectations on Virus Hit
“Chinese officials are evaluating whether the target for economic growth this year should be softened as part of a broader review of how the government’s plans will be affected by the deadly virus outbreak, according to people familiar with the matter. The annual growth target is typically unveiled in March at the country’s legislative session after being endorsed by top leaders at the annual closed-door Central Economic Work Conference in December. Economists had expected China would aim for output growth of “around 6%” this year after seeking a range of 6% to 6.5% in 2019.”
