US Trade Deficit Narrows to $73.3 Billion on Drop in Imports
The US trade deficit narrowed in June as imports fell for the first time since the start of the year in a broad decline.
The gap in goods and services trade shrank 5.6% from the prior month to $73.3 billion, Commerce Department data showed Tuesday. The value of imports declined 1.8% while exports fell 0.9%.

EU Eyes Winter LNG Buys as Storage Hits Near Two-Decade Low
The European Union is optimistic that winter liquefied natural gas imports will help offset inventories that are at their lowest level for this time of year in almost two decades after the Iran war drove up prices and disrupted summer stockpiling.
“The EU can count on significant spare LNG import capacity allowing additional imports during the winter months, complementing storage usage in providing flexibility,” a spokesperson for the European Commission, the bloc’s executive arm, said in emailed comments.
Asia:
Bessent Says Yen Level Problem for Japan, Other Currencies
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the weakness of the yen has contributed to Japan’s inflation problem and raised the risk of broader depreciation of Asian currencies as he reiterated US support for efforts to stabilize the situation.
“It’s just the level of the yen that could trigger other problems or trigger competitive devaluations, which is unhealthy,” Bessent said on CNBC Tuesday. “A stable yen is not only important for the US but very important for the entire region” of Asia.
