COVID-19 Clinical Management Summary Update

As of December 21, 2021, the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) had spread across the globe to six continents, over five million people had died after contracting the respiratory virus. Cases now stand at 275,988,460 globally.

Based on the COVID-19 Clinical Management Summary for Monday, December 20, 2021, the overall number of cases in Jamaica has reached 92,127 with 38 confirmed cases within 24 hours. Additionally, there was 1 death recorded, hence Jamaica’s death toll for COVID-19 positive individuals stands at 2,450.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness indicated that a total of 348 deaths have been under investigation as at December 20, 2021. Coincidental deaths as at the same date amounted to 192.

Approximately 220 countries and territories worldwide have been affected by the COVID-19 disease. The virus is still circulating at very high rates, and many countries have reintroduced lockdown rules to slow the spread recorded over the winter months. Furthermore, fresh travel restrictions have been implemented following the discovery of new variants, particularly those first identified in the UK and South Africa.
