Euro Area Annual Inflation Unchanged at 2.0% in August 2025

The euro area’s annual inflation rate was 2.0% in August 2025, unchanged from July. A year earlier, the rate was 2.2%. Similarly, annual inflation in the European Union remained at 2.4% in August 2025, consistent with July. A year earlier, the rate was also 2.4%.

 

Cyprus recorded the lowest annual inflation rate (0.0%), followed by France (0.8%) and Italy (1.6%). The highest annual rates were observed in Romania (8.5%), Estonia (6.2%), and Croatia (4.6%). Compared to July 2025, annual inflation declined in nine Member States, increased in fourteen, and remained stable in four.

 

In August 2025, services contributed the most to the annual euro area inflation rate (+1.44 percentage points), followed by food, alcohol, and tobacco (+0.62 pp), non-energy industrial goods (+0.18 pp), and energy (-0.19 pp).
