US Industrial Production Fell in March in Broad Decline
US industrial production declined in March as manufacturing softened and utility output decreased in the wake of the Iran war.
The 0.5% drop in production at factories, mines and utilities followed an upwardly revised 0.7% surge a month earlier, Federal Reserve data showed Thursday.
Europe:
Euro-Zone Inflation Was Faster Than Thought in March at 2.6%
Euro-zone inflation was faster than initially reported in March, suggesting stronger upward pressure on prices from the Iran war.
Last month’s reading was revised up to 2.6% from an initial estimate of 2.5%, Eurostat said Thursday.
Asia:
China’s Economy Rides Out War as Growth Unexpectedly Hits 5%
China’s economic growth rebounded more than expected in the first quarter, suggesting limited spillovers so far from the war in Iran but revealing few signs of turnaround in weak consumer spending.
Powered by strong manufacturing and exports, gross domestic product expanded 5% from a year ago, the fastest in three quarters, according to a statement from the National Bureau of Statistics on Thursday.
