In Hot U.S. Jobs Market, Half of College Grads Are Missing Out

“Millions of Americans are seeing little return from their expensive college degrees — even in today’s hot jobs market. For the first time in decades, recent college graduates are more likely to be out of work than the population as a whole, according to the New York Federal Reserve. And for the lower-earning half of college grads, the wage premium is shrinking fast.”

German Economy Looks Ill-Prepared for What’s Coming in 2020

“Germany entered 2020 with a flatlining economy and manufacturers in distress, leaving it ill prepared for continued trade uncertainty and the new coronavirus threat. Europe’s largest economy has been battered by multiple forces that have turned it from a growth engine to one of the region’s weakest performers. Expansion last year was just 0.6% and 2020 may be little better. The euro-area economy grew 1.2% in 2019, though the pace was just 0.1% in the fourth quarter.”

Chinese Aluminum-Extrusion Exporters Face Possible EU Tariffs

“The European Union threatened to impose tariffs on aluminum extrusions from China after EU-based producers said trade protection was needed to save jobs in the bloc. The European Commission opened a probe into whether Chinese exporters of aluminum bars, rods, profiles, tubes and pipes sold them in the EU below cost, a practice known as dumping. The investigation will determine whether these goods from China are “being dumped and whether the dumped imports have caused injury to the union industry,” the commission, the EU’s executive arm in Brussels, said on Friday in the Official Journal.”
