Total U.S. Retail Sales excluding Nonstore Retailers grew 4.8%

Total U.S. Retail Sales excluding Non-store Retailers, not seasonally adjusted, for December 2020 recorded a 4.8% (±0.5%) increase, according to the US Census Bureau. It was noted that thirty-four states had positive and significant year-over-year percent changes from December 2019 to December 2020.

Notably, December ’s retail sales for Building Supplies, Garden Equipment, and Supplies Dealers, not seasonally adjusted, were up 20.5% (±1.1%) above December 2019. From December 2019 to December 2020, 49 states and the District of Columbia saw positive and substantial year-over-year percentage shifts.

Retail sales for Electronics and Appliance Stores (not seasonally adjusted) went down 14.7% (±2.6%) in December 2020 relative to last year. The United States Census also reported that, “twenty-three states had negative and significant year -over-year percent changes from December 2019 to December 2020.”
