U.S. Unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.7% in July

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 164,000 in July as the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.7%. based on information collected by The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), job growth occurred in professional and technical services, health care, social assistance, and financial activities.

Household Survey Data

Unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.7% in July. Notably, there were 6.1 million recorded for the number of unemployed persons.

Among the major worker groups, teenagers had the highest unemployment rates (12.8%). As for the groups, adult men (3.4%), adult women(3.4%) and Whites (3.3 %),Blacks (6.0 %), Asians (2.8 %) and Hispanics (4.5 %).

In July, the persons who have been jobless for 27 weeks or more declined by 248,000 to 1.2 million accounting for 19.2% of those unemployed.

 

Establishment Survey Data

Total nonfarm payroll employment climbed by 164,000 in July, in the same trajectory as the average employment in the first 6 months of the year. In relation to job being gained in July 2019, notable increases were observed in professional and technical services with an increase of 31,000, while healthcare rose 30,000. Social assistance, this rose by 20,000 and financial activities increased by 18,000.
