Half of New US Entrepreneurs Are Women, Leading a Creation Boom

“Women and minorities have been fueling the boom in business creation of the past two years in the US. A survey found that almost half of 2021’s new entrepreneurs were women, a significant uptick from 28% in 2019. And the share of new Black business own tripled to 9%, according to Gusto, a payroll and human-resource management business.”



BOE Staff Awarded Restrained 1.25% Pay Increase Last Year

“The Bank of England awarded staff a below-inflation 1.25% pay rise in 2021, its annual report shows. Governor Andrew Bailey and the deputy governors were offered 1%, which Bailey declined to accept. His deputies – Ben Broadbent, Jon Cunliffe, Dave Ramsden and Sam Woods – took the increase.”



China’s Property Slump Is a Bigger Threat Than Its Lockdowns

“While global attention is focused on the economic impact of coronavirus lockdowns in Shanghai and Beijing, the slump in China’s housing market is likely to have even more profound implications. An official index that tracks apartment and house sales has posted year-on-year declines for 11 months straight—a record since China created a private property market in the 1990s.”
